Laparoscopy & Thoracoscopy

Laparoscopy is defined as minimally invasive surgery of the abdomen.  It is an excellent tool to diagnose conditions in the abdomen in a much less traumatic fashion.  Many procedures can be performed by Laparoscopy, including biopsy of any organ, ovariohysterectomy, (spay) cryptorchid surgery, gall bladder removal, removal of small tumors and other various procedures.  Often Laparoscopy gives an accurate diagnosis without subjecting the pet to conventional surgery.

Thoracoscopy is defined as minimally invasive surgery of the thorax.  It is often used to diagnose conditions and obtain biopsy samples.  Procedures which can be performed include tumor removal, lung lobe biopsy and pericardial procedures.  Conventional thoracic surgery is painful, very traumatic, and requires extended hospital stays.  Thoracoscopy minimizes those problems.
